Engine bay Scoops
I've noticed there are 2 different engine bay scoop designs. N/a and s/c. I wouldn't mind changing my s/c to the n/a type but does the n/a design draw less air?

The 87-89 has a slight performance gain, due to the raised lip at the back of the "scoop" increasing pressure, where as the pre-87 is approximately static pressure (1 atm). its very minimal, would only really be worth the switch if the routing in the trunk was airtight and didn't have that pathway directly to the engine bay. otherwise just acts as extra cooling for the engine.

87-89 air filter assembly in trunk available
I have 2 conversion "kits" if anyone of our 85-86 owners wants to go to the 87-89 trunk mounted air intake, it's the entire assembly that fits in the trunk and holds the air filter.
I do NOT however have that restricted snake like air induction tubing from the side intake grill to the air filter assembly. Mr2tim |

On my 86 I fabricated and welded a scoop over top of my vent and sealed the quarter panel so the only place the forced air has to go is through the hole to the engine compartment and I removed the rubber air duct and built a sheet metal box that holds my oil cooler right to the same spot and still utilizes the puller fan which I have set up to kick on if the oil temp reaches 165 degrees celsius (the sensor is screwed into the oil piping) and also my oil filter is mounted in there as well as my electric oil pump(I use an electric oil pump on a timer to preoil the engine upon first startup of the engine and to run for 7 min when the engine shuts off to recirculate oil through the turbo)

I just welded sheetmetal in place and seam sealered it all up, now all the air goes into the quarter panel and through the cooler, I'm using bulk head connecters for all the wiring and piping and foam weatherstrip around all the joints that bolt on
