what weight oil to use?

a while back i put in the royal purple. when i was doing it, i noticed the washer on the drain bolt was trashed. i talked to the old wise mens at the shop and he told me i should be ok with a small washer of i could get it flat enough. i tried it and i have a very slow drip. i went to buy more oil from advanced and outa curiosity i asked if they had the bolt. they did so now i was curious what to replace the oil with? i am noob at the whole blah weight blah. i will be driving it this winter so i think i need thinner right? O_o

drain plug washers can be bought at the Toyota stealership. you can buy nylon ones at pepgirls, but they seem to leak.
10 or 5w-30 should be fine. i'm surprised you don't have more leaks from using synthetic oil in a tired engine. that may be why you have a puff of smoke on initial start-up.
