Old Calipers

Do calipers that have been sitting unused for six years have to be rebuilt, even if they don't leak but are quite rusty? The car i took them off of still had complete brake pressure even though it had been sitting for quite sometime.
This being said, if they do need to be rebuilt, where can i get a rebuild kit? Or alternatively are there any places I could get new calipers on the cheap?

Well how do the boots look? Any tears in them. I would probably rebuild them if it were me.

the full rebuilt kit is super cheap. I got mine at rockauto.com but that was for my mkII. I paid under $20 for the full kit.

I you really want to go gun ho on them deassmeble the calipers sandblast them, then solvent clean them, then sonic clean them to get all the fine dust and rust out. then do the full rebuilt on them. Bam brand spanking new calipers the autoparts store sells.

My car sat for 5 years. The calipers were somewhat sticking but they need to be done anyway. Takes about 1 hour or less with basic automotive knowledge.

Follow this link and buy them from Aaron at Lithia Toy:

Here are some pics of my rebuilt calipers etc:
