keep in mind that your dash gauge may be lying....
if there is air trapped in the system..... the coolant temp sensor (for on the dash) is located on the inlet housing of the return hose from the radiator -- however, this area (where the filler is) is the highest point of the coolant system. Since air is lighter than coolant and water, it's quite possible that some of the air is getting trapped at the highest point, then the hot air is getting pulled down across the coolant sensor.... that all being said... anytime you replace a thermostat your car will lose coolant and you need to make sure the cooling system is air free.... any car. |

Well if there is air in it then he needs to bleed it - which is exactly what we're talking about.
The problem would be if he had bled it and was sure there was no air in the system, but it was still overheating. That would be problematic. |

ok well.. we just bled the system and unhooked the cooling fans so they run all the time.. it is not overheating anymore but it still bubbles in the over flow tank..... any ideas on that??

everything posted here but the lawl monkey is legit. one thing left out though, when you are bleeding, sometimes air hides in the black rubber pipe right near the filler valve. you can flex it around a bit and some air will come out. hope that helps a little.

right... yea i mean we bled it and it was fine driving it around town yesterday.. then on the way to work today on the interstate it over heated.. and when we got to work we checked the water and there was NONE in it..
what would cause that.. i know we prolly need to bleed the system again to make sure all the air is out again since i know it can hide and not all come out |

there isnt a leak though because there is no dripping anywhere or water under the car

if you filled it but now it's empty , then that sounds like a leak.
are you seeing any smoke or steam from the exhaust? does the exhaust smell really bad? |

no.. that is what we considered too maybe it bein a blown head gasket.. but there isnt any...
it just uses up all the water and starts to overheat... ????? |

yea that is what is confusing... i mean when we bled it it had ALOT of air in it.. but we didnt put it uop on jacks so i am pretty sure we prolly didnt get out all of the air... so we gotta do that... but i just dont understand where the water is goin cause it isnt comin out from under the car

mr2's have big cooling systems... they can have big air pockets.....
once an air pocket reaches where the cap is, it can overheat and blow steam out of the cap... which will result in a loss of more coolant.... make sure it's bled 100% |

is the best way to get it all out to put it up on jacks an work it out that way? and in your opinion whats the best way to make sure it is completely bled 100%

using jacks is a good idea. if it was fine until you got on the freeway, i wonder if you have a leak that only shows itself when the pressure goes up and then your coolant steams out? thats kinda a weird issue. if you lived closer i'd help you bleed it but i don't know much more then that on the subject... GL tho!

chock the front wheels. jack the rear of the car up and place safety jacks (in the highest position). open the heater valve (turn the heat to 'on'). place front bleed tubes onto bleeder and hang from funk lid. open rear bleeder. when you add coolant and such 'burp' your hoses by squeezing them or massaging them. remember the hoses in the front and the rear.

i think it has to be a blown head gasket becuase it bubbles but the water level doesnt go down...
