overheating.. what can be causing it

I have a 89 Toyota MR2. i just recently changed the thermostat. what could be causing too much pressure to build up in the radiator cap and making it pop off to let steam out

when you did the thermostat did you bleed the system?

yea i already changed the radiator cap. what do i do to check if there is air trapped? and also if it was a head wouldnt it have smoke come out of exhaust and have a "milky" substance

no i didnt bleed the system... how can i do that and whats the easyiest way

it was overheating every now and then before i changed the thermostat

there are three locations to remove the air

top of the rad
heater valve in frunk and
thermostat housing

would this work too??? The simple way to change your MR2 coolant.

use the clear hoses on the rad and the heater valve. just leave them open as you fill it. make sure you also open the one on the thermostat housing. it's not as hard as it sounds.

do you know what else could be causing the bubbling

just do the simple stuff first and hope for the best.

Always start with cheapest and easiest, then try cheapest and harder, then move on to the expensive but easy stuff. Hope to god that you don't have to move onto the expensive and difficult stuff...

The cheapest and easiest thing would have been bleeding your system.

yea well honestly i had no idea about bleeding the system.. so now that will definitely be the next thing i try...

i have to check my fans too, to make sure they are working..

about how long does it take to bleed the system
