Lining up the timing marks.
Lining it up with the crank pulley at TDC. Will the marks on the cam gears line up with the marks on the backing plate? Asking because my car is lopping and won't rev past 4500 RPMs. Currently the cam gears are 3 teeth after with the crank pulley at TDC. Just needing an answer without telling a story

Yes, at TDC the crank and cams are supposed to be lined up with their marks.
Oh and the T-belt also has it's own marks where it's supposed to line up with the cam and crank when you put it on for the first time. |

keep in mind that TDC is when the crank keyway is sticking straight up in relation to the engine.... not necessarily straight up in the air.... there's also a timing mark (about fingernail width) on the back/top side of the lower timing gear. The upper timing gears have dots that should line up with the markings on the upper timing plate.

Crank timing mark is set to 0 TDC. Cams are set to their marks in the cam caps under the valve cover, and ALSO can be referenced against the horizon mark against the head (not the most accurate way, but can work as well)
