Hey, good to know. You're right, I have an 85 and the one I got with the filters came with a similar AFM so they are both 85. The 87 does look different. The top is round and the older ones are square. Still works fine so I'm okay using them. Now I got two. I'll just keep the oem setup in case anyone bitches about the setup. You just never know.

Do you remember what size adapter you got on yours yellow? I stopped by the autozone and kragen, but they only had like two at each place, one really big one and the other one about 1/4 I think. But I think the air compressor fittings may fit since that's what I got pointed to at the autozone. They have the coupling type and the other one for the hoses with more ribs if you will. I can't remember what they called it, but yeah I just have to look around. I didn't see any metrics either. I have those bits too and thought I could just do that but oh well.

i didnt do my mod myself - JavaJoe79 rebuilt my engine and he did this mod... I thought it was cool and wanted to share the idea.

There is another thread elsewhere where a guy (kozaz) did it and used a 5/16" hose barb and jbweld to go in there... so I think 1/4" diameter would be just fine.
Here is a pic from his thread on what he did... notice he is using an 85/86 afm too...

What is that 1/4 circle thing anyways (the big metal object in the pictures[edit: the AFM?])? I have one on my 3sfe and could never figure out what it was. Seemed like an auto-idle or something but it just seems like it would restrict air flow.

lol to the heated conversation before.
