Mk2 Mr2 won't start.
So here's ther deal, I have a video so I'll keep the text short.
I overheated my car after blowing some fuses causing my gauges not to work. It used to start but now the starter is blown, so now, nothing. There's pretty much two routes: 1. head gasket/mechanical 2. fuses/electrical well, three because it could be both. mobil said it's an electrical problem, but they didn't do a full diagnostic, so they're kind of guessing. Let me know what you think. thanks! p.s. if I can't fix it, I'm willing to trade for a good condition mk1. If you have something else you want to trade, let me know, I'm open. PM is best for me <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/quUWkTG7nrE&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/quUWkTG7nrE&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> if that works or, |

Do you have a friend near by with another MR2? You can try to swap out the ecu's to at least rule that out....since Mobil thinks its electrical? Sound like no fuel....and or a Cracked manifold? Cant hear real well on your vid. Hopefully someone has some better input. Guys can anybody make a suggestion for this fella? idk bro.

sounds like a major vacuum leak.
have you replaced the blown fuses , cause i noticed your tach isn't working? start with a compression test just to be safe.GL |

hmmm... vacuum leak, I'll have to look into that haven't thought of that before. some people are saying it sounds like a blown head gasket, which makes sense w/ the overheating...but oil isn't muddy and doesn't have coolant in it.
as for the ECU, i have another mr2 friend nearby but I doubt he's willing to let me rip out his ECU plus i'd definitely want to rule out some more stuff before I go for the ECUand the fuses, I just realized something I said I blew fuses, but I checked every single one in my car with an ohmmeter and they're all fine. (except for the starter relay, btw WHERE IS IT ?? what else could shut down my gauges like that?if my car didn't have a salvage title I'd just start replacing everything, including the motor but I don't want to put too much $$ into a salvage... I think it might be time for a trade ![]() |

I'm looking at some videos of cars with vacuum leaks, and the sounds are eerily reminiscent of the hideous sounds coming from my car, so I think you guys are right about the vacuum leak, I'm definitely going to check into it. All I need now is a starter and I can get going trying to repair the leak. maybe I'll get to keep my mr2 after all. you guys are geniuses...I guess I'll be there in a few years, I remember when I thought changing the oil was actually 'working on my car' LOL |

The starter relay is in the trunk next to the Ecu.
It sounds to me like you are getting no fuel. check and see if you can hear the fuel pump running when you turn the switch on. If you have a buddy around you, you can take loose the bolt that has the line running to it on the middle of the intake manifold whlie he is cranking the motor and see if it sprays fuel. But i still think it is a huge vac leak cause it does run for a min. |
