there are 2 wires on the CSI... one of them is the power wire that is connected to the thermister switch (IIRC the green coolant sensor on the #4 side of the head) and the other is just a direct wire to the thermister switch.....
where did you check power? was the connector broken or the metal clips pulled out of the socket by chance? |

Screw it, just hold the throttle open at 2000 rpm's when you first start it up. Just like the injector. After it gets warm enough (just past the low end line) the idle will go up 200 rpms while your foot is in the same spot. Let go of the gas and you'll be ok to drive. My car has been like that since day one and it just isnt something worth me fixing. One of the wires is bad on my car. I tried a different injector and a different ecu and neither fixed it so I just dont even care about it.

doesn't work that way.... it will take forever to start..... our cars don't have ecu's smart enough to enrichen fuel when cranking, which is really what the CSI is there for.... it is used during warmup, but it is not nearly as required as at startup.

Unless setup is different on the MKI's, you wont get power to the CSI unless you are actually cranking the engine. Toyota (AFAIK) uses the same setup on all cars that actually have a CSI.
It gets its power from the STA signal. The STA signal is only live (suppling 12v) while the key is in the start position. Thus if your not cranking the engine, you will not get 12v to the CSI. It is not used during warm-up, it is only used to fire the engine. Warm-up is dependent off of the coolent temp and is handled via the ECU. The Thermister is actually a Thermal Time switch to prevent flooding of the engine in the even that you crank if for a long period of time and the engine does not fire. |

Or go to a local junkyard... usually they're a few dollars and they swap across different Toyotas.
To test the inejctor yourself you can disconnect the stock plug and then connect to wires directly to the CSI.... hold one to a ground, and touch the other to the pos terminal on the battery.. you should hear it click on. If it doesn't, then the CSI is bad. If it does, then there's another problem. |
