Can an in-line external fuel pump be used? Mk 1 1986

My '86 Mk 1 needs a new fuel pump. Having had good advice on here, I removed the plastic panels from beneath the car and don't much like the look of removing the tank!

So, to avoid having to remove it, is it possible to fit an external in-line pump between the tank and filter, say like the Walbro 255 LPH type seen on e-bay item No. 160328288306 ?? It would be sooo much easier - but I don't know if it can suck fuel through the old seized pump still in the tank.

Or, alternatively, can a hole be cut in the floor under the console to enable the pump to be removed from the tank via the inside of the car?

All advice very much appreciated, thank you!

an inline pump is not the best for suction but can be done it will shorten the life of the pump and also no the inline will not suck through the old pump worth a sh*t if at all, to use and inline pump with a stock tank you would have to fabricate an intank pick up or buy one but you would still have to drop the tank to instal it and also cutting a hole would not work because the lines are solid all the way from the pickup to the end of the tank so you are gonna have to drop the tank
