85 MK1 Help

Have had no previous problems with this car. Driving and with no funny noises or other warnings power was lost to the wheels. Clutch slave cylinder works, shift cables are connected and moving, drive shafts intact, transmission goes into gear, let out clutch in any gear... nothing. No movement, noises ect... car can be reved in gear with clutch engaged, nothing. Never run into anything like this before. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Tom

Best guess is either the clutch disk and/or pressure plate, throw-out bearing or the flywheel itself. Another post (involving an MKII) discussed having the bolts holding the flywheel to the crank shear off, and not being able to transmit power.

If you put the car in gear and push the car, can you see the crank pulley (or any of the belts) turn? If so, can any of the pulleys be carefully held to provide resistance when the car is being pushed? There may be enough resistance associated with a very worn clutch disk and/or weak pressure plate to turn the engine when it is off, but not when it is running.

Thanks all. I will be dropping the tranny when I get back from my business trip in a couple of weeks. I'll let you know what I find. I'm hoping it is just the clutch disk. Perhaps the spline boss just broke off the plate....
