low oil pressure ..

sup guys, for the last 2 weeks my car has been gettin low oil pressure readings and i've noticed that once the engine is up to normal operating temperature, the car begins to want to shut off when at idle. I'm not sure how this could've happened because before that, i kept gettin high oil pressure readings. Anybody know what may be causing this issue? Any help is greatly appreciated!!! thanx!

Nope, thicker oil builds up more pressure, it takes more force to push it through the bearings.

Make sure your oil level's ok, and make sure you're not gushing oil out of the oil cooler hoses. Either of those would cause a major drop in oil pressure.

something to check

You might check the appearance of the coolant at the filler cap.

Open, top off the coolant level, and look for brown floaty blobs in the coolant.

You could also clean off the connector to the oil pressure sender, and then re-install the connector. Its located above the AC mount, or beneath the Distributor on the side of the block.

sounds like the staling could be your timing being off, and the oil pressure could mean your oil level is really low. these cars do burn oil, and they dont use much to begin with, so before you hit your 3k oil change, you could need to add some.

nine burned 1 qt in 11,000 miles. 3k is very safe for an oil change. toyota recommends 7-10k miles for an oil change.

ok, i added a quart as i said before.

valvoine high mileage oil has some additive in it that kind of revives rubber seals. dont ask me how. it just does. my corolla leaked regular oil like no other. i started using valvoline max life and it almost stopped. it went from puddles on my driveway to a drip or two.

7-10k miles is the manufacturers recommendations. i looked it up for fun one day.

Mk1's leak oil normally. Actually, most all cars leak a little after 20 years and 200k miles (pretty normal mileage). Toyota usually does a lot better than most car companies on that score.

Find a 20-year-old Chevy with 200k miles and it leaks a little oil or it's been rebuilt. Find a 20-year-old Ford with 200k miles and...well, good luck finding one.

I was told from a very trustworthy source that the oile pressure gauge isn't al to acurate but I never had any problems like what you are having. There are american cars that can make it to 200k? Lol I actualy know of a few which leads me to believe that even american cars can last long if you take care of them. It seems that there are still some cars better then others and also I suspect that japanese parts may be of higher quality. *shrug*
