Mki does not respond, help please
well as some of you know, my mki just got a fresh built motor. last night I put it all together and got it all ready for the road. I took it for a drive. As I accelerated from a stop sign the car felt real sluggish, I gave it more gas and still didnt pick up and just died. Didnt want to start so I had to tow it home. Today I got in the car and just started it like nothing, but still doesnt accelerate. I checked the throttle cables, they are tight, any suggestions?

Sounds like the car is getting fuel
The car was put on time, I don't know if it jumped a tooth? Like i said above, maybe it did but I wasn't even going fast, unless the belt was loose? I'm going to have to double check. But a better description ( I typed the post on a phone) I'll accelerate and the car moves, but feels sluggish and then just dies. It struggles to pick up, weak. |

You need to get out the tools, get out the book, and diagnose the car.
Is the ignition timing correct? Do you have any vacuum leaks? When the car dies, how long does it stay dead before it will start again? Do you have water in the spark plug wells? Are the distributor cap and rotor both in good condition today? I don't care when they were replaced - do they look good today? Do you have correct fuel pressure? |

2.Shouldn't since I replaced all vacuums but will double check 3.when it first did it, it didn't start at all until the next day, now it will start up right after it dies. 4.No 5.didn't look, but thats a good idea to check 6.I should but I really don't know how to check |

Good, but I am talking about a repair manual, a shop manual - not the dinky little thing we keep in the glovebox, but the big thick mother that tells you how to work on the thing. Got one?

That's what you need. Should be instructions in there on checking fuel pressure.

Ok I checked everything, timing is fine, the car is getting fuel, no vacuum leaks.
But what I am assuming is that the car is choking its self with gas. |

So fuel pressure, measured with a fuel pressure gauge as described in the manual, is within factory specs?
And by "checked everything" can we assume that you confirmed that the plugs are firing reliably even when the engine dies out? And is the AFM plugged in and checking out OK? And there are no holes, tears, cracks, leaks, or missing fittings on the hose between the AFM and the throttle body? |

Also did you pull codes? Could be an afm issue or TPS related. |

If you think you are smelling fuel, you'd better rule out failing spark. when and after the engine dies, does the ignition system still produce a strong spark?
If the ignition system is doing its job, you'd better get a gauge on the fuel rail and check it properly. You are checking not only for the presence of fuel, but for correct fuel pressure. |

Yeah it is, cars ignition is working good. When its not flooded the car starts up right away.
Heres a pic of how all my afm is ![]() ![]() I have the filter and the cap, just curious on what that side hose goes to (sticking out by the AFM) |

The side hose is your cold air intake. It connects to the air filter box, which your car doesn't have installed.
If the car is flooding, I can think of 3 things to check: AFM flap stuck open, excessive fuel pressure, and leaky injectors. My money's on injectors, but the other 2 are easier to check. |

I had bad injectors in my 3s from running really high pressure on my turbo setup damaging them. If I pumped the throttle rapidly it would rev up otherwise it would die.
