Why is the belt squealing? Is there a miss alignment of the pulleys or is the belt just loose? Is the driven accessory that the belt is driving seizing up? Is the idler (if needed) for the belt seizing?

If the problem is more than just miss-alignment than that could cause more load on the engine and lug it down causing it to struggle and die.

If the squealing is unrelated to the stall problem than check the easy stuff like vacuum leaks, fouled spark plugs, bad distributor cap, bad plug wires.
