Stereo installation

Just wondering if anyone else has had a problem trying to find a kit to install a head unit in a MR2. I have bought 2 differant types and niether one will fit into the radio opening. I have also gone to several stereo shops and they tell me that I will have to have one specially made. Don't really want to pay someone $50 to $75 bucks, I'm cheap I guess. Have any answers?

Most decks will mount in an MR2 using the machine screw mounts on the deck and the factory supplied Toyota brackets.

I was afraid to screw into a new Alpine decks side, fearing it might cause damage to the head unit itself.

I have a pioneer head unit I bought for the car, do you think it would be safe to screw directly into the side of the unit with smal screws?
