Charging Issue, help!!!

So I just read through the Electrical Problems 101 and dont think that my problem pertains to any of the tips included.

I just installed a rebuilt alternator, and couldnt get the clip connection to stay clipped for a bit, but that issue has been delt with, how ever when going thru the connections my uncle removed the "hat" on the top post of the alternator, and I have no flippen idea where the hell he put it. Any way, my problem it seems is that the car is using more energy than the alternator can put out and its slowly draining my battery down to nothing. Ok well I am sure you are all shaking in your shorts to see how this turns out based on the number of responces... lol. Well anyway, it seems I blew the alt's internal voltage regualter. I will be reinstalling it tonight and then going out and buying a tune up and oil change.

The VR is only one possible problem with an alternator. But, it can cause the alternator output voltage to be too low OR too high. Either way, it will turn on the dash light.
