Personally, I'd suggest buying the Toyota Factory Service manual. You'll have to pay a little more, but it will be worth it. I've never seen a Chilton manual, because I've always used Toyota books.

You can never know everything about MR2s, that's why I have so many posts, always fishing for more info
Unfortunately I sold my 1986 Repair Manual about a year ago, or else I'd sell it to you. Check eBay. |

The Chilton and Hynes manuals suck!!!! Its worth the money to get the BGB (Big Green Book). Just call Toyota Publishing at 1-800-622-2033. They will ask you the exact year of the car. This is four inch thick book like that you see at the dealerships. I got tired of digging through my $20 Haynes manual just for it to tell me to take it to an autherized perfesional. MAN!!!! If I wanted to take it to the shop I wouldn't have bought the book. But seriously, this book has walked me through so much. You won't be dissappointed.

The chiltons and haynes manuals are useless, as is the BGB in many ways, though at least it has some useful sections. A lot of times I find you're best off just figuring it out on your own.

Yeah but as far as torque specs and getting an idea where to start the BGB is invaluable. I have done two head gasket changes and replaced both rear wheel bearings. The BGB gave torque specs on every single nut and bolt that was touched. After having mine for about three years I don't think should own an MR2 without one.
As for the Haynes and Chilton manuals, they make good drink coasters. ~C.C.~ |

Torque specs are largely useless, just tighten it up good and tight. There's no sense finding the exact number of inch-pounds each nut and bolt needs. The only time I've ever used torque specs is when doing internal engine work or tightening lug nuts, and for the lug nuts I just pull a number out of my *** and make it even all the way around.
