Features/Items on the MKI that are better than the MKII
I'll start:
Padded center tunnel armrest. Makes sense. Odd that they didn't design something like that into the MKII. -- DavidV ![]() |

Why does everyone break their ashtrays? I've never had a problem with mine...
Umm whats better.... you can replace one for a lot less? And... that little flat thing on top the dash that looks like a mini golf course. Somebody really should turn that into something useful...like...a mini golf course. |

Having had now 16 MR2's I would have to say I cant lean to any side. I would never give up the handling of an MkI na or sc, or the sheer power from a MkII turbo. I rotate generations just to get my fill. I cant go too long without driving one or the other.
I have never had the pleasure of a NA MkII, but its kinda hard to grow up on caviar and go back to canned peas. Maybe I will eventually grab up a NA and drive it for a while before devising a "demon" plan........ (I like that face)..#1... I hardly fit in the MkI but it is still comfortable. I feel a lot more comfortable in the MkII. #2... Why the hell are there still no cup holders. After 5 years you think they'd figure that out. Nothing better than having a cool drink on a hot day with the t-tops out.....without it spilling out in the rear console... #3... I like the body style change, but I still like the look of an MkI. #4... BIGGER TRUNK..... Try fitting $300 of groceries in an MkI..... I had to drive home with bread in my lap a few times.... #5... There is a lot more available to the MkII. If there were more for the MkI it would be a tie. #6... More engine bay space in the MkII. You dont know how much easier that makes my life! I have to deal with so many MkI's I would trade them any day to work on 2x as many MkII's. #7... I prefer manual steering. I love the feel of the road and the connection you make with the car. I am sure there is more, but I am off to get dinner, so if I think of anything I will edit... ![]() |

Its easier to find an mk1 sunroof than an mk2 sunroof. I really dont like t tops that much, unless of course you got FI. Cuz then its like, O well im fast and i have to look cool, a little extra weight is fine. I also think the MK1 is a lot more roomy. I can take naps in it very easily.

I like how the mkI looks like it was made for the track. The stance and size look perfect for a road course car. The MkI feels like a big go-kart when you drive it, it's much more connected to the road. Heck, the MkII is a VERY small car compared to a lot out there, and the MkI makes it seem like a 3000gt or something.

I like the weight of the MKI over the MKII and the way it feels like a go kart when you start taking corners fast.

I think the MK1 is gad awful ugly. I would rather have to put a few grand into an mk11 to make it handle better, than sacrifice asthetics. As far as wieght... get a hardtop, add all the cf options, lose the stock seats, the carpet behind the seats, excess luggage(maybe 30lbs off that gut), and before you know it, youre down to the 2200 mark...
I can go without ashtray AND sterio for that matter... |
