Buzzer and Horn

Hello, everyone! I got a white 88 MR2 a few weeks ago, and since I got all of the important engine/frame issues taken care of, I was thinking of doing some small stuff.

I really hate the sound of that buzzer that goes off when you put the key in the ignition. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. Is there any way to take it out or replace it with something that isn't so obnoxious? Like the standard "Ding Ding Ding". I seemed to have located the buzzer to be behind the driver's seat, to the left. Am I right?

Also, I have a problems with my horn. It's really quiet. It beeps as loud as someone talks. What do I need to replace to have my horn beep at the right volume? I dont' even know how horns work, really. Hopefully, it's the part of the horn that makes the tone, because I want to get a really gay sounding horn off of a geo metro or sentra. Have you ever heard an old sentra's horn? I love it. hehe.

Thanks a lot for reading. I've been lurking in the group for a while now and there is some awesome advice going around.

-John

The buzzer is beside the driver seat as you suggested. If you remove the interior trim you can get access to it. It is a little black box with a connector plugged into it, (and it buzzes, so it shouldn't be that hard to pinpoint). You can do one of three things to eliminate the irritating buzzing. First you can simply unplug it. This however also disables the headlight auto-off when you turn off your car and open the door. Also I believe it causes your dome light not to come on when the driver door is opened (not 100% sure on that though). And also the seat belt warning thing doesn't work if it is unplugged.

Option 2 involves opening up the buzzer box itself and somehow disabling or removing the buzzer, while leaving the rest of the electronics intact.

Option 3, according to EricS, cutting the top right wire will also kill the buzzing.

Oh yeah, and for the horn, mine were the same way when I got my car. I got a set of air horns. Problem solved.
