best muffler
alright i have a 86 MR2 and am building an exhaust with 2 1/4in tubing and was wondering what the best sounding muffler would be?
i dont want it too loud, but loud when you get higher in the RPMs. And i dont want it to sound like a little dinky riced out honda civic. Any ideas? |

Best muffler = Flowmaster Hushpower II. Put one on my car, sounds absolutely amazing, words can't even describe.

I've read mixed reviews about the pacesetter exhaust. Some say they rust out within a few years but some say they love them and they sound great. I'm using a bosal stock replacement on my stock 87. Stock mk2 muffler on my 88 20v. I had the mk2 on my 87 for a while and it was pretty good. It's a heavy muffler and has to be modded a bit to work but nothing big.
Traintech, you really cant compare front engine car's exhaust to the mr2's. They have more bends and are longer. They will give you an idea but not accurate. |

Pacesetter system is very loud. I had one for a minute. The inside is CHEAP, and falls apart quickly and easily. Same story with the pacesetter systems on my 280zx and 300zx. Like I said, Hushpower dos, son. HECHO EN AMERICANA... Sounds fantastic on MR2. Nearly made me nut myself when she hit 5k. Fockin indians over here told me it sounded like a Ferrari.. I would post a vid but I already swapped it out for my experimental true dual system
...BTW... That vid of the BMW sounds almost identical to what my deuce sounded like with the Hush. Only the 2 sounds way smoother revving. |

ok. so i found it (Hushpower 12418400) for $118, but when the tool ask's to see if it fits, i type in 1988 toyota mr2 it says it doesnt fit, then recomends a Bosal exhaust for me... so does it fit or doesnt it? do you have to mix and match stuff and re-do the whole system? or can you fit it on OEM stuff already on the car?

Of course it's not going to fit the stock application. You are looking at a differnt size diameter piping. If you go out and buy the correct size stuff you can make it work. I'm not sure what the difference is with between the 2. Someone posted the size of the stock stuff and it was under 2" I'm not sure the exact size so I wont say that. You can make it work though.
