Now for the bad news story and why I am selling it. Unfortunately the car will need the bottom end rebuilt. I have almost $30K invested in it at this point and am just looking for a quick sale as I dont have the time or money to finish it. The car dropped a rod cap while idleing in my driveway. As far as me and my dad can tell when we went through it there must have been a manufacturing flaw in the rod bolts. This engine has never been abused and everthing still looks pristine other than the rod failure. The pistons and 3 rods are definatley salvageable. The 4th rod may be ok with further inspection. The crank is also most likely salvageable. There is some light marring of the bearing surface. The block is probably toast as the rod went through the skirt. Although this is not a critical area I would just get a new block to be safe in a rebuild. Honestly I would probably go with a new short block from a reputable vendor and it would be a pretty easy fix/rebuild in the right hands. It is already tuned and if everything was put back as it is with a new block it would start right up. There is less than 1000mi on the build. This is a beautiful car and could be a dream MR2 to someone. This car was a beast for the short time I drove it. It has been sitting in a garage with a car cover ever since the rod failure. I am willing to answer any questions and concerns and the car is available for viewing in Tulsa OK. I am currently going through a divorce, graduating from grad school, and moving back to OK from TN so that is the reason for sale. I have all the reciepts from the build as well as the original window sticker from the car and dyno/quater mile strips from the build.
I have pics of the bottom end with the oil pan off if any one is intersted.

Thanks. It is a beautiful car. The pictures dont do it justice. I am sick to have to sell it but my situation forces me to. I really want it to go to a mr2 enthusiast.

Me too. You're not the only one who worries about who's going to end up with his car.

It's a shame you have to sell it, but cars can be replaced when the time is right. Good luck with the sale.
