are there any sensors that should be changed out when doing this swap... for instance, the tps on an automatic is different from a manual tranny tps. should that be swapped as well? also what is the proper way to hook up the reverse lights when doing the swap? i'll be doing my swap very soon

welllllllllll.. that would all depend. are u gonna stay with the auto ecu? or go full with the manual harness and ecu?
if you leave the auto harness and ecu you need to take the gear selector from the tranny and leave it plugged it so ur able to put it in neutral (for start) the reverse, you would have to fine the 2 cables that go to the reverse light cut them and make them plug into the reserve switch on the tranny. all other sensors are the same. if you go for manual harness and ecu. you need to change the whole TB because the TPs is different (not only the plug but the way it hooks on too) Ive been running all this time with my auto ecu but will be converting to manual ecu and harness tomorrow. I'll let you know if i run into any problems. |

i haven't decided if i wanna change the ecu or not. i have a manual ecu available if i decide to swap that as well.
so does it run ok with the auto ecu? are there any problems? |

Just ground the auto tranny pin and leave all the wiring in place. It makes life easier. The wiring harness for the auto is different from the manual where the ECU hooks up. It's kinda pointless to change it...

no it runs perfectly fine. just leave the same harness and the same ecu.
the only reason im changing my harness and my ecu is because im going turbo and gonna have a piggy-back wired and i just want it that way. |

hey guys will soon be converting one of my mr2s with auto and no bigend bearings left with a complete engine box package i bought for $160
first question is i have done swaps for hondas before and like them does it on auto looms have the reverse light switch plug by the gearbox just sitting there redundant on the auto looms? and secondly my conversion package is only missing the clutch hydraulic line seeing as i will be making my own line do you think it will be easier to just put it on the floor under the carpet so i dont have to remove the petrol tank? |

remove all underbody plastic i dropped both the brackets for the hand brake cable and just let them hang a little out of the way i then unbolted ac line and just pulled it out of the way as its quite flexible (no need to lose gas not that i have any anyway) then i removed the water pipe and kicked it out from under the car now the only things left n the way are two fueltank brackets these need to be removed to get the line in so th tank needs to be supported mine was empty so i didnt need this i just did oneat a time first i completly removed the front one then the hard part is getting the frontof the pipe into the frunk area it was mainly hard as i was alone and the front wheels were on the ground still so i couldnt get my head that far under once i got the pipe up there i bolted it to the other line so it couldnt fall back down then just move your way back installing the clips when i got to the rear fuel tank mount i reinstalled the front mount and then just took one bolt out of the back one and slid it under then do the last couple of brackets and link to clutch hose then reverse yourself and put everything back things i would do different 1. lift front too or just lift one side 2. drain waterpipes first i was lying in a pile of water for far too long 3. get a hair cut first as my hair keeps getting stuck in the creeper wheels 4.get someone not useless to help even just to guide the front of the line through the right space other things that have since gone wrong are 1. when i raised the engine into place it cought one of the shift cables and bent the end which broke off trying to straighten it (luckily i got given some new shift cables and hand brake cables for free from someone wrecking one who doesnt know whats worth money so i have a spare) 2. i installed the water hoses before i remembered to adapt the auto wiring to the manual box (i woudl have idealy done that out of the car but my ad called the other day and said i need my engine crane back tomorow arvo so i was rushed to install it) so far that all thats gone wrong so will keep u posted if anything else goes wrong |

what do you mean. all i did was take the auto selector from the tranny and leave it hooked up in neutral.
if the car wont rev past 4k i think thats a map or tps or something else.. |
