SAFC + BTM

I'm in the process of putting together my 5sfte and I was looking at pressure2's write up over at 6gc.net. He said that when you pull fuel out with the SAFC, it the ECU will have a tendancy to advance the timing = boom. But I already have a BTM and once my engine has broke in, I'll crank it up to about 15psi, since that's all the ct-26 is good for. Obvously if I want to run 15psi, 315cc injectors wont be enough. so I need an upgrade.

So I guess my question is: can I run a BTM to counteract the timing being advanced by pulling fuel with the SAFC?

Thanks

Are you going to keep stock compression on the 5SFE? If so that is going to be the cause of any detonations once you crank the boost to 15psi...

If you want to try to draw that much power you may just want to look at picking up a 3GSTE. It seems like everyone I have read about just uses the CT26 at 9-10 PSI on their 5SFTE setups.

I'm have forged internals at 8.5:1 compression plus the stock intercooler which has a 55% efficiency, so 15psi is no problem, plus not to metion that my turbo is at the shop, it has a 50 trim on it already, but i'm having the turbine clipped 5* and the wastegate ported, so the turbo kicking out enough isn't a problem.

I'm doing a 5sfte just because of nay sayers like you SpeedySix, I'll plan to get extensive machine work done to the head to improve flow, and will plan to be putting down 300 ponies at the wheel by this fall.

Will the SAFC control timing or will I need to keep my BTM to retard the timing back to a safe level.

SAFC will not control timing. Unless you have a 93+ with the knock sensor a BTM is a must. Even if you do have a 93 it might be a good idea to start out with the BTM installed and go from there.

I'm still in the process of putting together my 5SFTE. I didn't want to deal with two boxes to tune so I'm running an Emanage. I've heard the SMT6 is also very capable.

This is all on a 92 so no knock sensor, but like I said I have 315cc injectors and once my engine is broken in, I'd like to be putting down around 300 with larger injectors and the SAFC.

Keep the BTM and look into RX7 460cc injectors. Also look into a wideband, summit sells them for $250 complete.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I am currently putting together a 5SFTE build on my 94. I like the torque of the 5 and want to get in some mechanical experience before I try a beams, 3rd gen, or V6 swap (each has their pros). My engine has 150000 miles on it though, so we'll see how that goes.

If you want to prove it can be done, then by all means go for it! I was just saying it would be easier on a 3SGTE. Keeps us updated.
