Removing Inner Race (Outside) from Axle Shaft
Does anyone have any tricks for pressing the Inner Race off the Axle Shaft? I've cranked down a Bearing Separator as hard as I can under the race, but it's seized on the hub so stiffly that as soon as I start trying to press it out the separator just slips over the race.
I'm following step #5 of the BGB. Perhaps hitting it with some heat may help? At this point, unless someone has a great idea, I'm going to take it to a machine shop. ![]() |

you can grind two slots on opposite sides so the bearing separator has a better grip, or you can grind a slit down the length of it and smack it with a hammer and chisel to split it.

i think that one of the sides is actually a cover that hides another clip.

no, that is just the inner race of the wheel bearing, there is no retainer, it's press fit, that's why they have you press it off and on, the outer portion of the wheel bearing has a clip on the back side of the knuckle under the seal. make sure to put the new seal on the knuckle before you press on the hub, and if the hub is scored (not a smooth even surface) then you need a hub.
