I heard the 5s is crappy and can't handle turbo and will blow very easily due to it being an aluminum block..Is this true..Also in the long run what would be better to fix up..Like getting up to 500hp at least

Why are you repeating the same crap from another thread? In that same thread Tom and I both told you that the 5S block is cast iron and strong

Then read one of these fine interent sites that google has been kind enough to provide free of charge: is aluminum magnetic - Google Search 500hp... Really? I can't imagine trying to daily drive the thing but here's a good idea of how to get there: ATS Racing 550 whp complete build ups On topic, depending on what your goals are it might be easier and more cost effective to install more aggressive cams into the 5S head. |

I read about using the GTE cams in the 5SFE setup, but there is a small amount of modification to be done.

^ I'm going to guess thats a bad idea. At the very least the cam gear setup on the 3S is very different than the 5S.
Still, interesting idea. I'm searching now, but do you have a link to the thread? |

I don't know I read this before I bought my MR2..also my friend told me, because he wanted one and he did his 'Research" before he got his silvia..Let me look it up
Edit: ok I found it..diff. b/t the 5sfe and 3sgte - 6G Celicas Forums I know its a celica's site but since the celicas also carry the 5s I figured it also ment the MR2 Last edited by YELLOW_MR2; 01-08-2009 at 09:39 PM. |

One idiot, from one post, back in 2005. If you had "researched" here and on mr2oc, you'll find hundreds of threads saying otherwise.
Also, if you had continued reading that thread, the VERY next reply is: Quote:

Wow Sang... A bit snappy are'nt we... lol... Breath in, Breath out...
But Yellow MR2, im pretty sure you could have researched that a little better. That information is available on plenty of places online and a simple google search would've answered that question. -J |

I was quite calm the first time it was brought up by Yellow_MR2 and happily answered questions brought up in the previous thread. Now it's more of an annoyance that the same misinformation is still being brought up, by the same person. help! what to buy? |

now that you all have informed me of the 5sgte, im really considering it, but if i build it, its going to be my way with better rods, pistons, cams, and all the goodies but im going to do this seperately like get another 5s block and go from there that way i can keep my 5sfte running.. To do this what crankshaft do you use? I kept reading that you use the 3s and have it machined to the 5s block. Is that true...and while reading this i saw that i irrated Sang, Sorry about that, i know now what it is, been doing a lot of research

I would use the 5s block. As far as Im concerned the 5sfe is probably the strongest and most reliable engine to build upon.
