Yeah I was thinking the same thing Midnight, I bet some of us all were haha. But yeah making it look good would be the hard part..I have a couple ideas, but I need lots of center panels!

No man seriously I think it can be done with LEDs and a circuit board. Since I'm looking at the 94+ tail lights I bought, it seems those red reflectors can actually be popped out. If you could make a circuit board with like 50 or maybe 100 tiny white LEDs that could fit in a clear lens of that size it could be possible to make it fit without having to do any major cutting of the tail light lens.

I would be willing to try to make a mock one during spring break since I won't be doing anything else if people seem interested enough on doing something like it themselves.

Pic below show the clips that hold the red reflector in the 94 tail lights.

Interesting..didn't know they had clips. Oh and when I said "making them look good", I was talking about where to place the back up lights (of course, right on the 94 tails would look the best).

I've had that idea for years, putting the reverse lights in the middle of the 2 round ones. I didn't even know there was a clip that holds it in. I was thinking about cutting the reflector out.

The easy way instead of making a circuit and LED's would be to take the reflector out and just put a clear light housing in there, cutting the back panel behind the reflector out.

For anyone who's thinking about trying to put the reverse lights in place of the red reflector on the 94+ lights...it's not that easy. I took mine apart yesterday and tried to get that reflector out. It's embedded with glue over a cm deep in the housing. The only thing I could think that might work would be braking the reflector and then trying to find something clear to put in its place. The reverse light lenses on the center panel won't fit. I'm guessing most people couldn't get a custom piece made for a decent price so I call that project a bust. If anyone wants pictures just PM me...

OH...and that clip that is mentioned above is for the whole light fixture. It secures the plastic to the housing.

It might give you a different look. I would try it but put L.E.D #1157 bulbs in place of the old halogen bulbs. I will make the car look newer.....more modern in appearance.

I see them for 130$ shipped on ebay...i should just buy them for the pure entertainment of it. If i like the way they look on my red car then i will keep them on...if not, oh wells.

I think these are them...i dont care for the super clear cover over the black backing though....i think i would tint them darker and they would be neat

What spoilers on the Red car? Is that the 98 stock spoiler? I haven't seen that one much.

The first red car doesn't have a 98 spoiler. I'm not sure what it is. Looks like a universal spoiler.

The second red MR2 has a 94 wing.

The gold MR2 has an actual 98 wing...

This seems like the ideal spot to ask. Anyone know where to get a solid rear trim with out the holes for reverse lights or key?

Rogue makes one...or used to. I've seen them on ebay also, or you can get a regular one and fill the holes.

I thought about filling it in, but thought it might be cheaper to find one already made.

Difference between 94+ tailights?

Hi.

I'm wondering if you guys can answer a question.

I've seen two versions of the 94+ tailights. The only visible difference is that one of them has a smaller reflector on the inner light, than the outer light.

I believe that the difference is between the eroupean version and the us\japanese version of the tailight, but I'm not sure of that.

It is best visible when the light is turned on.

You can see it in the pictures below, where the top pics are showing us cars with both inner ander outer lens of the tailight in same sice.
While the picture of the blue car shows that the reflector on the inner light is smaller on euro version of that car, and therefore the light appears smaller. In the pic, it looks like a shadow on the light. I reality it is that light that doesn't shine up the entire tail light. I'm sure of this because it is my car in the pic of the blue one.

Most of the lights I've seen on sale on ebay has the version with a small reflector on the inner part of the light. It is barley viseble on the pic on ebay, but you can see it on most of the ones for sale.

I want the version of the light with full inner reflector.

Which light do I have to buy to get the version with two equally sized reflectors? And where do I buy it?

Hope you guys can help.

It's on both tailights. Car is a 1995 modell.

I did find the answer though. It looks like the us and japanese cars does have different lenses in the tailights, because the euro cars have fog lights i the tailights. While us\jap cars have driving and braking lights.

So i need to purchase a set of japanse lights from the toyota dealer or rpmgarage to get the lights i want.

I'm wondering if anybody here know the difference between the 94+ US version of the tailights and the 94+ Japanese version of the tail lights.

They have to different part numbers, so there must be some difference.

Partnumber japanese toyota:
81550-17100 right
81560-17140 left
US version:
81550-17110 Right
81560-17150 Left

the difference is that the side corner lights are Red in USDM and Orange in JDM.
this is the USDM

notice the corner light it is red

JDM is this

Notice the Corner light on this is orange. which looks more flush with the turn signals.

Another difference is when installing them with harness. JDMs do not have a hole for the bulb to go in in the corner light most people drill a hole to fit them in. USDM has a hole for it.
