not sure about the gearboxes in the STI, but the RS has a better one than the WRX. Safe limit is about 250WHP on the WRX tranny from what my subie friends have told me. I prefer evos over subies, but i would love a 99-00 imprezza with a swap... swap alone costs $10k due to wiring tho!

I have found Subaru to be questionable fullstop. My cousin was running an 11second STi with the 2.5 twin turbo I think? He blew new factory gearboxes every 4 months and that is with only 5 track passes a piece. He ordered a built box with straight cut gears and it blew in 5 months. I like the evo though they rape all over me when they turn up to the rallies and they don't blow up.

My subaru was entered in a derby, before it even got hot or had any real damage I slapped it down a gear and planted it and it bigtime threw a rod much to the crowds approval and then the right hand cv and tyre blew. It then covered the grandstands in smoke and died

There used to be a guy at our rallies with a worked chevy in a starion with 4wd. OMG it was the best sounding car I had even heard and it looked awesome. He could hook up to 3rd on tarmac and still have all 4 wheels going nuts. Build a V8 starion DOOOOO IIIIIIIIT

I would do it if I had the money, I already have the v8 rx7. That thing is crazy enough, slower than the mk1.5 even with 350hp. Has something a 2L doesn't have......3 billion ft/lbsof super crazyness torque

I'm still siding with Subaru, my friend is still autocrossing his WRX from 2002 I believe was the year, and it's still in amazing shape. nothing major has gone wrong with the car, as long as you manage and take car of a car, it's less likely to give out on you.

FTW!
but I'm still sticking with my 2.
