paint over the t-tops?
So Im basically looking for everyones opinion on this. Im painting my car soon, which is t-top, and I hate t-tops, so I wanna paint over them to match the rest of the car. Ive seen a picture of it once and I liked it, but I cant find it now. Yes I do wish it was a hardtop or at least sunroof. I dont take the inside covers off to look up through the glass so I couldnt care less.

looks dumb to me, but if you do it, do it right so if you take them off, it will still look decent.

yea no doubt, if my car was already black i wouldnt care, but the contrast just bugs me, i never liked the two-tone look. Im guessing alot of people dont like it since I never see it.

Someone could just as easily say owning T-tops is just as dumb as painting them.
![]() I don't think painting them is such a bad idea at all. Looks nice to me. ![]() |

Idunno, guys . . . Glass doesn't seem to take paint well, in my experience . . . Some places make fiberglass or carbon t-top panels . . . What about a vinyl overlay? That way you might run a reduced risk of, y'know, ruining them.
Painting that strip in the middle seems a decent plan . . . I held off on several 2's because I wanted t-tops . . . What can I say? Made in the 80's! ![]() Last edited by Archidamus-R; 10-12-2009 at 09:14 PM.. |

i personally dont mind the two tone top. i personally like taking the covers off and having the sun shine down on sunny days

well i live at the beach, if its a nice enough day i just take em off. an overlay would be acceptable though, if the quality was good enough.

i have the shades and they are a pain in the ass. one of the little hooks broke off and i can't be bothered to screw with them. they don't seem cheap to replace, and if i got them tinted, i wouldn't have to worry about it at all. i didn't mention it but i have 2 sets of tops. bought 1 set at the yards that had some crappy tint on there. wanted to put them up but no one was interested so i might just keep them and have them retinted. then i can switch back and forth...

Some times i wish i had a hard top. But i love the look of the t-top. And like some others said, it's nice to have them off on nice days. I dont have shades or any tint on them. So the sun beats down hard on really sunny days. I want to put really dark tint on them.

I've got a hard top and love it! but I can see where you guys are coming from. I had a 300zx that I tinted the ttops and I like it a lot. Still feels somewhat open but the sun isn't bad and they don't heat up. Then again it never really gets too hot in the pacific north west either..
I havn't had any experience with them getting to hot though. |
