noob question

My brake lights don't turn off. Does that mean my brake light switch needs to be
replaced? I remember reading a while back about people talking about using assorted ways to fix this but I'm ok with spending money to have it right

Well your brake switch would be the first culprit, yes. Get a voltmeter on it and test it, make sure the switch itself is bad. No use in replacing something that works just fine.
