93 5 speed NA VALUE and Reliability help

hey guys new to MR2s but not Toyotas
i have a Tacoma and its realiable as hell. my cousin is looking to buy an MR2 off Craigslist so i figured id ask you a little about the reliability and reputation of this car. it has 134000miles, 5 speed, sunroof, power everything.
the bad is that it needs front shocks, paint is starting to fade in a couple areas(light blue), and the tach isnt working..
the shocks should be cheap and easy to replace, new paint eventually.
is there a common issue with the tach not working? i have no clue what is causing it so im not sure how we could go about fixing it.
the guys is firm on selling it for 3400 and its way less than KBB value....
so what do you guys think?

p.s. i love what some of you do with my 5vz motor in these MR2s

p.s. i love what some of you do with my 5vz motor in these MR2s
It's just as reliable as any other car as long as the Engine is well maintained. Buying something used with that many miles without receipts for work you really don't know how well it was taken care of.

The 5S is probably a fairly cheap replacement if you can do it yourself and find an engine.

I don't know of any 'common' issue with Tachs not working but it's probably a fairly easy and cheap fix.

94+ shocks swap would be preferred over the 91-93 if you can find a set or are spending the same amount. Might just want to look into an aftermarket set though.

Minor paint fading can always be buffed out but you will always have to maintain that.

the car is a 1993. we are gonna look at it tomorrow....my cousin has a 90something hunday sonata that is a major piece of ****. it doesnt even drive now, and it ALWAYS has some issue..not starting, not running right, shaking everywhere, rattles, etc. he wants a car that he wont have to worry about getting him to school and other places.
the guys says its been well taken care of..but everyone says the same thing when they wana sell something

it's bullet proof as long as it's maintained. Just don't expect any performance out of it, that's what 3sgtes are for
