Cheap how to replace rear under arm braces

Ive seen some of the stuff on horsepower.com and saw what they did to replace the underarm bracers. Ive decided to do it and take pictures for the hell of it and to show some mr2 folks how to do it yourself. As you know these under arm bracers rot out on mine well they were baaaaad.

As you can see mine were almost missing so i went to home depot and i found some steel conduit piping for 6 bucks and a can of gloss black spray paint for 97 cents and i picked it up.

lucky me i picked up this little truck last saturday for my daily to start the mr2 build/project but anyways i measured the pipes with the underarm bracers.... well what was left of the one

and i cut them to length. Next thing is you wanna get a hammer for me i used a dead blow hammer and smashed the ends in flipping the steel tube every 2 or 3 hits with the hammer

Next i marked the holes with the old bracer support and drilled em out

off topic but heres a picture of my buddys wheels off his old vw before i converted him to a is300 this is how i feel about v dubs

next i scuffed them up with a wire brush so the paint would get a nice clean stick. make sure to wear saftey goggles on this one i almost learned the hard way

next i painted them

heres the finished product. now you can slap em on theyll form shape when you bolt them down

now your all set

So in the long run with an hour of labor i spent 7 dollers and 20 cents on these. Not sure what toyota would charge but its probably in the 40 doller range who knows maybe 80. Hope this helps some of you with rotted out bracers.
