Oil dipstick wont go back in.

When i bought the car the guy said that his mechanic had pull the stick outta the tube and couldn't get it back in. So he left it out.Go figure.

So i want to fix it and make it right. What could be stopping it from going in? It gets to a certain point but it wont go all the way in.

    Thanks guys.

    This happened to my friend....

Best I could figure out..... There was a model change, some engines have a longer tube-to make access easier.

Longer tube means a longer stick is required.

Long stick/short tube and the dipstick will not go in all the way.

Well the only thing with that is the dipstick was in it. Then he took it out and couldn't get it back in. If it woulda be incorrect it wouldn't have went in the first time right?

The tube is narrow to begin with. What I would do is use a grinder wheel to 'narrow' the dipstick gauge. Just grind down about 1mm on each side and it should go in.
