Best rims ever

Dymags

Yes, those are carbon fiber rims with magnesium centers. They come stock on Ascaris, Koenigseggs, and Moslers. Dramatic weight reduction, especially around the outside of the rim, leading to massive improvements in dynamic performance. I was reading up on some of the reviews, and race teams using these wheels have reported cutting full seconds off their lap times. A Porsche team reported it gave the same benefit as giving their car an extra 40hp. I mean yeah, they cost like $2-3k/wheel, but money is no object, right?

Those are sick wheels. Wedsport debuted their fully carbon fiber wheels at the tokyo auto salon this past year. Similar design but they weight ~2.5 kg per wheel. And yeah $3-5K a wheel isn't cheap...but you can't put a price on happiness right?

Do you need wheels like these (dymags or wedsports)? Probably not...but do you want wheels like these? Oh yeah...you want wheels like these

So who's gonna be the first to try them out on the boards??? Any takers?

I know...guessing that means you could get 17's under 5lbs. How sick would that be? That's less than forged 13's

I would never park or drive near curbs if I had rims that were that expensive.

who would mount tires on those? i would think that you'd have a really tough time finding a shop that would take the liability of possibly damaging one trying to mount a tire on it.

They have to be pretty durable...I mean they're wheels right. Plus if it's been done it can't be that hard on the wheels and carbon fiber is really strong. Plus if you have that kinda money I'm sure one wouldn't mind paying a little extra for mounting...

I'd like a price check on 15x7s for track use... TIA

(even though for certain groups they do specify I must use "metallic" wheels )

^you could always do magnesium spokes with a forged rim...if they make those which I'm pretty sure they do.

Decent wheels have long been lighter than tires. Tires are damned heavy.

Ya I guess you're right, I never thought of it like that.

I'm really digging those wedsports though.

So, who on the board thinks they have the composite skills to make us some staggered 17" carbon fiber rims for the MR2?
