spun out of control

On my way home from the store, my car spun out of control, when I made a turn, I was lucky I didn't hit any one, my car went on top of a center divider there are no damage, thanks god.

Today was the fist day we had a good amount of rain in Cal, maybe my tires are not meant for wet roads? but then again I'm not to sure.

BTW this is my firs time driving the mr2 in the rain.

Wow, glad you didn't hit anything. But I've had a couple sets of tires on my MR2. I have Nitto's on now that are meant for mud/snow for the upcoming winter and they are very slick in the rain, and on the dry road for that matter. Now before them I had a set of Dunlop Sport tires and they almost never broke traction. So tires may have a lot to do with it.

Yeah, one of the first times I drove my MR2 in the rain, I fishtailed for a bit. Scared the crap out me. Good to hear that neither you nor the 2 took any damage.

Tires play a huge role in slideage I had one close call on dry ground but it was at 100mph racing a grand prix I couldn't let him win I accidently tapped the brakes cuz he was coming into my lane sliding of the median marker and all back and forth this all happened like a month agoand the tire marks are still there I proved my driving skills that night no damage . Get glad to hear your safe dude!!

Not to thread jack, but out of curiosity, which type of Nitto tires are you running?

*end of thread jacking*

It would be a good idea to find a huge open parking lot and drive around it when it rains so you can get the feel for it. I need to do that because I moved to a place that snows, and I have never driven in the snow before.......

I'd recommend finding a legal place to get a better feel for the car (like an autocross)

Hmm, so you don't like those tires? I had heard good things about them, so I was going to look into them.

Well I love them for the winter. I heard they are good for lowered cars, as in wear on each side of the tire, but thats not why I bought them. As for grip on dry road I really don't like'em. I've had much better grip with other tires. In the snow they are a beast.

It rains a crap-load here in the winter, and I've heard decent things about them in the rain, and the price is great on them. Any thoughts on these in the rain?

I guess they are ok in the rain if your going in a straight line, they do move water pretty well. I've never had any hydroplaning and have went through some pretty huge puddles of sitting water. But if you bust a turn at good speed or hit the gas they'll break loose, that's with any tire I guess. The only gripe I have is when I'm powering around turns, I'm used to a lot of grip I had with my old tires but that's not something you'd do in the rain anyway.

thats a little narrow for my tastes, you should use staggered wheels, on stock 14's I use 185's in front and 245's in back, but Im on 17x8's in the rear so maybe I can fit more tire back there.

I would find out what the most amount of tread you can fit on the back tires, and go with that, 205 sounds kinda narrow to me.

The smallest I'd want to run is 205 in the front and 225 in the rear.

Just so you know, if you lose control of the car under any circumstances you cannot blame the equipment. You have to adapt your driving style to the conditions; weather, tire wear and quality, road surface condition and angles. You, as the driver, are 100% responsible for what happens with your vehicle. Losing control of the car means you're overdriving it.

That being said, I can tell you that the roads in SoCal SUCK for shedding water. They are definitely not built for inclement conditions which means you have to be extremely careful when it's raining.

What kind of tires do you have now and how much is left on them?

Not only is it legal but you can actually get some instruction from an experienced driver. Autox's are a fantastic way to learn how to drive well.

You want a 20-30mm stagger regardless of which size you end up with. I use 20mm stagger on mine and am extremely pleased with my balance.

60mm is WAY too much and will result in horrid understeer. With an NA you don't need anything more than a 235 in back.
