91-92 vs 93+ strut housing differences
Anyone know these differences? I just installed my TRD springs last night, and could tell absolutely no difference in the housing over Luni's 91 housings (my car is a 94 FYI).
Now a couple things could of happened..my housings may not be stock, who knows with these old cars. Also, I could of missed a very minor detail but they quite literally looked exactly the same. What I do know is that Toyota has different part #'s for them, and I have heard of people running 235/40 17's up front on the 93+ suspension. I have 17x8 wheels I just bought and want to make sure I can get that up front which is why I am asking lol. So does anyone know at all? Perhaps has a set of both (confirmed different years) they can compare? |

This is pertaining strictly to the fronts, not the rears. I haven't looked into those as we can get big tires in the rear as-is.

I've got a bunch of spare housings stockpiled for my racing efforts - look up what the two different part numbers are and I'll see if I have a set of both (I should..) and I'll take some side-by-side shots and measurements

Ok, I will see if I can get a PN. I looked and didn't see one engraved into any of the housings I have so we may be SOL even with the part numbers. I'll call Aaron and see what I can find out though.

was there anything like ABS that came standard starting in 93? It may be something as simple as the tab to hold the sensor wire or something. I don't think the strut inserts themselves are different, right?

I am not sure about the inserts...I'd imain SOME differencei n the inserts since the car sits an inch lower, but maybe no.
The ABS thing I was thinking about last night because mine has ABS but the extra housing I had does not. That could very well be it, but then that part number would be the same for 91-92 as well if they had ABS, and it's not. It could be the littlest detail though! |

On the 94 car, the strut mount changed from the off center position of the 93 to center. This might be accounted for in the knuckle assembly.

I compared a '91 and '93 strut housing side by side and saw no dimensional differences and no design differences at all. Weird. I am assuming all differences are in the knuckle and top mount.

Hmmm crazy. I would assume the 94-95 strut mounts/knuckle (if different) give the car slightly different camber thus allowing the fit of bigger front wheels/tires?

You all bring up an interesting point. I was going to swap my 93 tokico suspension and 1.5 inch lowered springs onto my 91.
Doesn't look like that will be a problem, no? |
