Coilovers

I've already searched the forum and I can't really find the information I'm looking for.

What coilover brand/set/etc. is going to be the best for a track car? I know many coilovers are adjustable, but spring rates themselves aren't. I'm looking for whatever coilovers are on the stiffer end of the spring rate spectrum for our cars.

I know EMSpowered has the KW coilovers, but from what I read they aren't the best for a track only car. Does anybody know the spring rates for Megan Racing, Cusco, Tein, Buddy Club, etc. coilovers?

of what you listed, KW is the best... tough to beat without making something yourself out of Koni components really.

yeah - definitely has the best damper quality. If the spring rates they come with are too low / wrong its not hard to find different ones - half the advantage to going to coilover for track use is commonly interchangeable springs

if you can find more info out there on what kind of spring rate range they'll work with I'd appreciate seeing it... thats one of the few things that has me hung up on getting them.

I'll put it another way - the only off-the-shelf coilover setup I've seen on any successful time attack MR2 was KW

KW seems to be really tight on letting out info about their coilovers! I can't find any spring rates for the MR2 set. The Cadillac set is too soft apparently, and the BMW set is too soft for track use too. So this makes me believe that the MR2 set will be too soft also.

How expensive is it to get new springs for a coilover?

see if you can find out what size spring it is (2.25", 2.5", or __ mm)

I've seen them at $50ish a pair iirc

springs are the easy piece to fix, damper quality is very tough...

The BMW thing I mentioned was some Berk-sponsored BMW racecar. They didn't re-valve the KW shocks, they only got new springs for it.

And hell, $50 a pair is nothing. I'd be paying over a grand for the KW's, another $100 is nothing compared to that.

We actually carry KSport coilovers. Not KW. Stay away from Tein & Megan Racing.

Oops, sorry Baktasht.

And again, what I've heard is that Tein and Megan Racing are both not too great. But this is advice coming from applications on other cars. So it can be hard to tell.

I would say go with K-Sport, they are purpose built race parts..... Also, your spring rate question isn't particularly important because wherever you buy them you will need to have them special ordered and K-Sport will put whichever spring you like on them. I've never ordered them, but I had them priced a couple times and the guy told me he could order them in just about any spring rate I needed.

On most of their models the lower mount is adjustable so you don't lose suspension travel when you lower the car.

A buddy of my had them on a RHD EF9 and when you raised the car up into the air the suspension didn't allow the wheel to sag, which I thought was interesting.

^^^^ Yup, we can order them with various spring rates. They are actually great coilovers, people don't give them enough credit. They also have several lines of coilovers specialized for various types of racing, not just the Kontrol Pro that everyone usually gets.

Would you care to elaborate? How do they feel in comparison to stock suspension and other coilovers? Predictability, dampening force, stiffness, etc?

lol... compared to a stock setup or pretty stock meaning bunch of bull**** with springs and cheap shocks or even stock... its not even a comparision.... but taking into consideration im also not draging a 350hp or less car more in the low 10 9 range... and they r sick... the rear end almost turn full out out the whole is perfect soft enough and and dampened to take the luanch with out pulling the front up really bad and getting out of controll... i have not been able to go all out yet but i will let u know.... but like i said they are an very serious company just dealing with suspension and brakes mostly focusing on coilovers.... its not some bull**** wanna be tuner street only half ass set up at all

Oh, you're drag racing your MR2?

I'm looking more into autocross/ possible road course racing.

easiest way to compare it is... stock like a cheap ass 100$ coilover adjustable kit... to a professional complete race set up.... but im also along with all the goodies... but even on a stock suspension set up would be like a different car... as soon as i can start htting it harder... ill put up all the 60' dont worry
