tire recomendations

Just looking for some good tires to put on the two, I want a tire that I can run on a track day and still be able to go out on a sunday cruise without tearing them up so basically a streetable tire that holds good on a track. I have been looking at the eagle f1 245/45/17 if any one can give me some info on this tire or any other tires you have used it would be greatly appriciated.

Tirerack has reviews by readers and alleged "professionals" that compare and contrast tires against each other. That said, I've heard very good things about the Eagle F1s and Michilen's Pilot Sport Cups. Alot of MR2 owners also use BFGoodrich gsport (think that's the name) for their good wet traction along with stellar dry.

I'm running BFG (Big ****ing Grip

) G Sports right now and they're as good or even better than the Falken Azenis I was running prior. Since you have 17s that means much much more tire selections.

I'd run Dunlop Star Specs, heard nothing but good things about them or the Kuhmo XS's! Oh and the new Hankook RS3s are supposed to be awesome.

Hate to crash the G-Sport party but I had to remove those tires from my '2. They were excellent in the dry but they were like ice on ice in the rain - just awful. I had zero confidence in them when the roads were wet. I've re-mounted my Azenis and all is well again.

I might go back to Toyo T1-Rs though, a very good performer in the dry and wet, they're nice and quiet too. Sidewall is a little less firm than other brands but it's hard to tell in 40 series tires anyway.

245/45 17 is waaaay tall.

Gsports are okay ....... I certainly wouldn't track them. You didn't have azenis 615's if you like the gsports better. Wet weather performance? What's that? Probably not a factor in San Diego anyway.

Wheel sizes?

I had the 615s, 8 months old and bald.

They gripped, at least I thought until they start getting loose at AutoX haha, my gsports haven't done that on me yet. Guess the Azenis were a bit too old huh? haha. I'm loving my gsports, haven't driven them in the rain yet, can't wait though!

I'm needing tires for 215/45/16 and 245/40/17. The Dunlap Star Specs don't come in the 215 width for the front, but they have them in the similar tread Dunlap DZ101's. I have Pilot Sports up front now and I've like their wet peformance, but they don't make them in 215/45/16 anymore. I don't wear the fronts out that fast so I was leaning toward the Azenis RT615's, but I need wet performance. Any suggestions for me for my fronts? Car is around 370rwhp, mostly spiritedly street driven on curvy roads in the Southeast.

the tread might look close, but I'd damn near garuntee you that their rubber compounds and thus grip levels are different

Agreed, this is why I was asking if anyone had run them, knew the difference b/w the Star Specs or, could make a different recommendation for me. We know 16's have more limited choice and there are only a few in the 215 width that I want. They make the Star Specs for my rear size and they are a good bit more than the DZ101's in that size, so I'm assuming they are charging for something different, perceived to be better.

I'm really leaning toward the 615's for the front since they are so sticky and I have 30mm worth of extra meat on each the back tire. I don't want it to push too easily. But we get a good bit of rain and puddling around here and while I slow down when I know conditions are bad, I do have a concern about wet traction and water channeling for the fronts. I hear the 615's are decent in the wet as long as you have about half tread left, but I didn't think it was a great wet tire. My logic is that since I got through the front tires so much slower than the rears, this could work for me.

I like BFGoodrich G-Force Sport tires. stock rims and tire size, I have no problem with them wet or dry.

g force sports or i like the falken ziex912s for cruisin tires. they arent the best grip tires, but they arent the worst and theyll last 65000 miles if you treat em right. thats what i got them for.
