PN-Req: Engine lid prop rod clip

I'm a little bitter because the plastic thing that holds my prop rod for my engine bay broke. Does anybody know what the part number is or if you can even get them from Toyota?

I've got a question: what exactly is that part? Is it the part the holds the rod in the engine lid, or the part that holds the rod in place when the lid is closed?

My rod has never been connected to my engine lid (in either my '92 or '93), but it appears to me that rod is supposed to stay attached to the engine lid at all times, then when you want to hold it open, you unclip it from a U-shaped clip, swing it down and hook it into the strut tower.

The two related part numbers I can find are 64407-17030, engine hood support sub-assy, and 53455-17040, hood support rod clamp. Is the clamp the U-shaped clip, and the part that keeps the rod in the lid part of the support sub-assy?

OT Edit: Is "ramen" supposed to have a capital "RA", or is that just a typo? I've seen it that way several times, and never figured out the point, assuming there is one. Y'arr!

The clamp is the u shaped clip that holds the rod. I would assume that the support sub-assembly is the rod itself. Have you thought about doing away with the whole thing entirely and going to an aftermarket engine lid strut bar?

I have, but I'm cheap and trying to sell the car. Those things are too expensive when I can just take the extra 10 seconds to reach behind my seat and grab the proprod after opening the engine lid.

I bought a pair of them from my local Toyota dealer, the part number was right on the money and despite the scorn the parts guy gave for the MR2 when he was asking what they where for. It took me about 5 min and a flat head screwdriver to replace. They cost me less then $2.50 each and I was happy, no more rattling prop rod from my engine bay.

Side note: I've seen it both ways also and really don't know. Something tells me the FSM doesn't mind how we have it as long as we have it.
