Hi,
ideally that is exactly what i would like to do :-) The problem is that the turbo is very rare here in germany and the result of this is that the prices are staggering! If i manage to get one from the us i still have the problem of shipping! We're talking $300,- in fees for transporting the thing to germany :-( |

If you've still got yours, why not rebuild it? These guys sell a kit (with instructions) for $100 or so: Home or go here to the CT26 kit:Toyota Kits

Hi 2restomod,
thanks for the info but you know what, I'd be scared witless to try and rebuild my own turbo :-) The thing rotates at 80000 rpm! If there is just the slightest imbalance it will start to tear itself apart very quickly and I for one don't have the necessary equipment to balance the assembly :-( Have you done this yourself before? |

^Yes, I rebuilt the CT26 on the 91 Turbo engine that I rebuilt a while back. I agree, it looks intimidating, but if you look at the parts for the CT26 on their web page I cited above, you can see that it is not a very complicated mechanism and doesn't have that many moving parts. As for balancing, the assembly is already balanced from the factory (unless you have some major damage) and you just have to make sure you put everything back together in the proper order and in the right direction (here come the 10 responses from people who make their living selling new and upgraded turbo's telling you not to rebuild it), but mine has been running strong and has no smoke or leaking issues and it's been humming for about 6 month's now.
I only did mine because I couldn't afford the $1500+ for a turbo upgrade and for $100 (for the kit) I thought "what the hell, let's give it a try". But, it's whatever you're comfortable with. That company will rebuild it for you also, or do a "performance rebuild". Give them a call, they are nice people to deal with and you don't have to leave 5 voice mail messages before you hear back from them. Of course you should check with the sponsors here to see what they can do for you as well. Last edited by 2restomod; 03-20-2008 at 03:27 PM. Reason: spelling |

I am seriously impressed! I wasn't trying to flame you or anything (just wanted to get that out of the way
) I honestly believe my turbo is too far one to be able to do this and if i'm doubly honest i'm looking forward to the t3/t4 upgrade Kris is offering :O) Now all i need are some nice orange silicone hoses to match my paint job and a good mbc and fcd and the krauts here can kiss my donkey ;O) |

LOL, no problem. It's just an alternative for people who want to keep their car relatively stock. Good luck with the upgrades.
