go to the hardware store and buy about 4 feet of cable and thread it through and get some solderless barrel nipples and cut it to length. cable inner is approximately 1.5mm. end connectors are 1/4 in. you may have to tape the end of the cable to prevent it from catching the side of the housing.

got a picture of this repair? I'm curious as how it will still slide into the outer sleeve
at idle, the fraying area just barley sticks out of the sleeve on mine... |

mine frayed in the same spot. the hardest part of the repair is finding the parts since the end connectors don't have a definitive name, altough it would be easier to find solder on. as long as the inner cable is equal to or slightly smaller than the housing it shouldn't be a problem. if your worried about not being able to thread it through you could buy the accompaning cable housing.

first take the cable off the car, then it will make more sense. simply replace the entire cable and thread it through the rubber sleeve, your going to have to cut an end connector off (1/4 in solder on throttle ends) thread the new cable through which is the only hard part and then put it back in place. theres no way to repair the cable so replace it. the difference between what i am describing and what most people do, which is go to the dealership, is that the dealership is way over priced, but people for some reason like to avoid 10 minutes of work even if it cost them over a hundred dollars.
