3SGE Gen 2 or 3 swap

5SFE seems like it's on the way out.

looking to see how much a Gen2/3 3SGE will cost me that will bolt right in with my trans and I'll need the wiring harness and ECU and whatever else it takes to swap it in.

ok for starters, cost is going to range from $600 (if your lucky) to around $1500. I got my complete gen 3 swap with tranny, ecu, harness ect for $1000 shipped to my door.

you will need the harness and ect however, if your current 5sfe tranny is in decent shape, you can use that. if your getting a celica engine you will have to reuse a few items off your 5s like the alternator bracket, water outlet and a few other minor things

im assuming your mr2 is a 91-93 so the 2nd gen is going to be the easiest to swap in. (about 8 wires to repin) same as a 3rd gen into a 94-95 (only about 8 wires) however vise versa is a little more complicated.

if you can, try to find an mr2 harness otherwise you will have to have someone like mr220v make one from your 5sfe and celica 3sge harness.

both engines are a deff. improvment over the 5sfe and for the price, it is a very good swap.

any other questions just ask

For the money, you might want to consider the beams as well.

not looking to spend the money for the BEAMS, I'd just save up a bit more for the 3rd gen 3SGTE. I'd like to have a 3rd gen 3SGE for the extra power, if I was going 2nd gen it wouldn't gain me much. but it's not something I'm against if the price is right. but I just need an ECU and harness and motor, right? I have a 91 NA and have a good trans, but I need a clutch anyways. So what do I need to have everything work for a 2nd gen or 3rd gen and what's estimated cost?
