^^^ haha, see.. 5VZs are great if you're going balls-out
![]() - 3VZ/1MZ for a straightforward, simple, inexpensive swap. They bolt up the easiest because they were designed for a FWD car. Everything clears/fits with minimal fuss. - 5VZ for big-power builds. Doesn't fit as well because it was designed for use in a F-R pickup truck. ![]() |

Dont get me wrong...a ems and cams will get the 5vz to rev as high as the 3vz and put out more power...some other quick mods will get you more power then all the v6's n/a ....

I vote for 5vz all the way, 3vz has head problems that was fixed in the 5vz and for those that think the 5vz cant rev up to 8000 rpm you just need to regrind the cam profie, springs retainers rods pistons etc, There are guys in arizona racing them in the desert making over 600hp.

if you have the money for raising it's rpm the 5vz-fe.
if not the 3vz-fe. turbo + stock everything 3vz-fe + $80 chinese 12:1fmu = 350bhp swap to 400cc+ injectors and easily 400bhp+ still no management. cheap, dirty & not highly optimized but it works. Last edited by Toysrme; 08-12-2007 at 07:46 PM. |

Who has 400 hp and no EMS?
My 5VZ runs great. I had some minor issues that most of you could have diagnosed and fixed in a day or so; I just did not have the skills. I'm learning as I go. I have more pieces to the puzzle waiting and the more I read this thread the more I want to finish mine. I look forward to posting here when I get it done. I do not think, as naive as I am, that there are many V6 swaps that really run out there. I see 70 names at the bottom here, but how many of them drive to work in theirs? Who else autocrosses in a V6? Someone let me know. I vote 5VZ, again. Not putting anyone's efforts down; I just want to know what happens after the car is built, not what it could do from the engine stand. Last edited by Dance_Business; 08-13-2007 at 02:13 AM. I'm not turbo (right now), so maybe my post doesn't count, but I drive my 1MZ swap into work everyday. Reliable as if it rolled off the Toyota line. I'm not much of an autoX'er and I don't have the money to open track like I used to.
I would love to see an accurate count of running/driving V6 MR2's world-wide too, it has to be < 100-200?, but who knows. This winter I plan on turbocharging the car, but I also need to finish up my V8 BMW project too. The MR2 runs so darn good and is so fun as it is NA, I might just leave it that way. I did put a new toy in the trunk though!! Just waiting on some smaller pills to show up. Will be running a 75 shot on it initially. ![]() |

I can almost certify there are less than triple digit V6 swaps at the moment. Paul Woods is the god of this swap and is only around 30-40 himself. Coupled with the 20 or so I know of on here (counting actual swaps and motors purchased, not I was thinking...blah blah) A registry would be great though. Needs a good layout
Name Of Member: Forum Name: Original MR2 Spec: (year, n/a, turbo, usdm, jdm, manual, auto, mileage) Engine Choice: (model number, displacement, miles, etc) Power Mod: (Supercharger, turbo, Nitrous, N/A, pact with satan, etc) Swap Date: Swap Performed By: (could be useful if you need to sell one later on if you have a good name like Johnny or Paul that built it) Miles Driven: (could be updated yearly???) Maybe a slot for two pics, one of the car, one of the engine bay??? Just some ideas to clunk around. |
