Parallel port, what's that?

From the port, all that's needed to interface the tach is a transistor and two resistors, plus the power supply of choice. For a 1MZ tach, you need 12VDC. For pretty much anything else that's driven by the coil/Igniter, you need at least 24VDC.

that's exactly what i did to calibrate merkur tachs. i just pulled the tach signal schematics off the stimulator board and made a separate module. the stimulator circuit has built in pots for coarse and fine adjustments. works pretty good. i mounted an aftermarket tach to the side of my box so i could have it to calibrate the stock tach to.
