Great, my first A/F ratio code

So, the ECU finally threw a P1130 A/F ratio code on my 1999 CA emissions ECU. The M/T ground switch is activated.

P1130 - Manufacturer controlled air/fuel ratio metering (AFR sensor), bank 1 sensor 1 malfunction.

Now what? Should I return the wiring to the factory AFR spec, or keep it as the O2 sensor wants? It's not showing a circuit malfunction even with the grounds to the chassis, so ... this is interesting. I have A/F ratio sensors anyway, but they aren't wired properly (on the harness side) so the ECU can't control them without them grounded to the ECU.

I hate California.

So let me get this straight:
1) You have the ADJ1 pin grounded to put your 99 Calif. ECU in M/T "mode"
2) When the ECU is in M/T mode is uses regular O2 sensors

But you still got an AFR sensor malfunction code...

Are you *SURE* the 99 Calif. ECUs are set up to use regular O2 sensors? If that's true, I can't imagine how you could get that code?

you have to be careful too... some of the ecu's will throw a code for an A/F sensor, but when you view the data list... its actually a heated O2....

Then again, i always did hear that a cali-ECU MIGHT use A/F sensors manual trans or not.

do you have a VIN# from the donor car? or a Cali-Spec M/T car?

Yep, everything is correct. The problem I'm having is that Toyota lists NO M/T 1MZ with A/F ratio sensors, and the BGBs for the Camry and Solara also list the same. Any CA spec automatic transmission ECU from MY1998 on is wired for A/F ratio sensors, and all MY2001+ (again, A/Ts) are also. If this is true and accurate, since Toyota takes great pains to ensure the parts catalogs are correct, then we should all be okay.

The fact that I'm not throwing a circuit malfunction (because the AFRs want the grounds on the ECU, not the chassis - and the ECU is also very picky about that too) might mean that Dave is on to something. It just might be throwing an AFR code, but it's really a heated O2 sensor. I'll have to look at the data on it.

My '00 CA runs on O2 sensors in M/T mode... and AFRs in A/T mode.

Check your O2 sensor for out of spec.

Thanks for the verification Conor. Well before it threw the code, I purposely disconnected the O2 sensors to see what code it would throw me. And when it threw an A/F ratio code, it tripped me out. Thankfully, I think Toyota just makes either the O2 sensor or A/F ratio sensor throw the same codes.

ehh.. fun stuff! I got the same code as well now.. just after putting in 10 miles on the new motor. at least where i relocated my sensors its easier to access than stock. you only got the 1130 code? or for rear as well 1150 i believe.

I got both codes now

Stupid OBD2 to hell with it.. once i can afford a standalone at least
