Thanks Dutch, but the arrow is pointing at the VVTLi oil control valve in general. The connector is actually a little farther up.

gotcha, the connector on the top right has 1 wire (oil pressure switch) and the connector on the left has 2 wires (oil control valve for vvtl). so thats 2 connectors total.

Does this make it possible to fi a mk3? I wanted to get into an mk3 because they are beautiful but I feel as though I am limited to an mk2 if I want to see 300whp.

adesorgo: You can go FI on a Mk3 with either the 1ZZ or 2ZZ motors; the 1ZZ gets about 250 reliably (as I recall) and the 2ZZ gets just over 300, but being 300-600 lbs lighter, this car doesn't need as much power to go just as fast. Try this Spyderchat sticky for info on FI and more info on 2ZZ swaps.

Yes you can use the 5speed transmission but be prepared for a crappy gear ratio that sucks.

That's a wiring diagram. It'll be very helpful.

Okay what you'll need:

-Cooling System: It's going to be the same one as the 1zzfe. So no worries here, although a bigger radiator wouldn't hurt.

-Wiring: Wiring is SO very simple. It's the same wiring harness that is in the 1zzfe already, just nab three cables from the 2zzge wiring harness (if you got it), and with the stock 1zzfe harness, just add the three wires. Get the one for the VVTL-I oil pressure sensor, and the 2 for the VVTL-I control module. If you don't have them, just go buy some wires and do it yourself. If you have the 2zz ones, you'll have to extend them. There are differences between the '00 and the '02 engine harnesses. The 02 has two pins for the knock sensor and the '00 engines have 1 pin. Get an '00 engine to save you some unecessary grief. The pins on the '02 are different than the pins on the '00. From what I've read it's pin 27 instead of pin 28. This is fixed (if you have the '02 engines) by following the knock sensor pin from both harness plugs and see where they lead. Figure it out and pin it in. There is a plastic cover piece that you have to use over he harness to make it stay still. Two of the three wires are located at the top of the head above the bell housing of the tranny. These two wires is actually the Oil Control Valve, this engages lift basically. The sensor just next to it on the exhaust side will be the oil pressure sensor.

Finish doing everything with the harness before dropping the engine in. The sensor behind the intake manifold will be a whore to get to if you don't have any small asians around to get their hands back there.

-Fuel Pump: Same from the 1zzfe.

-Oil Dipstick tube: You need to use the tube from 1zzfe and fiddle around with it until you make it fit onto the 2zzge. Make sure you do this BEFORE the engine goes in. Use the bracket or don't. It doesn't matter really, but I'd prefer to use the bracket when I do it.

-ECU: Either the 2zzge or a Apex'i Power FC. If you are strapped for cash, get the '00 or '01 ECU because they have a highere Redline.

-Transmission: Please for the love of God and all that is holy... get the 6 speed tranny from the Celica. Have Lilrocket from Spyderchat do your gear selector shaft and it's a simple swap.

-Clutch: Stock one from the 2zzge or If I were you, I'd get an aftermarket one just for giggles.

-Throttle body: This is kind of weird. You'll have to swap the TPS, but with the throttle acutator you have to mess around with the cable and bolt it to the firewall with one of the 1zzfe brackets to make it stay. Fiddle with it until it works. It'll pull from the bottom instead of the top like the 1zzfe.

-Pulleys and Serpentine Belt: Get one one size smaller than the 1zzfe or 1845mm. Along with this, the belt tensioner is the same, so use either one. The AC pulley you need from the 1zzfe. Remove the 2zzge power steering pulley and put in the 1zzfe idler pulley.

-Fuel rail: Swap the fuel rail from the 1zzfe but use the 2zzge injectors. This is very important when it comes to clearance.

-Alternator: The alternators are the same for either one, so use whichever is newest.

-Hoses: All of the 1zzfe hoses fit. Just cap off the ones that aren't needed anymore. From Spyderchat it's these ones:
*The nipple on the pipe near the knock sensor.
*The nipple on the cylinder head near the TB return pipe.
*The nipple closest to the firewall on the TB.
*The big nipple near the big pipe on the side of the engine.
*You can bypass the TB by closing the two TB nipples with a U shaped hose and loop it to the pipe on the block.

-Engine mounts:
Gearbox Mount - 1ZZ
Intake Mount - 1ZZ
Manifold Mount - 1ZZ
Pulley Mount - 2ZZ

The 2zzge bridge mount needs to be drilled out to accept the bolt, it also needs to be slotted to the rear a little bit to make it line up correctly. You'll have to add some sort of spacing underneath to keep the pulley side of the engine from dropping too low. The right engine mount needs to be the 2zzge one or you can fab and mutilate the 1zzfe one to make it work. From what I've read, it's easiest to get the left mount in first, unbolt the right mount then bolt it to the bridge and then mess around with the right mount to get it to sit back in. You'll have to add spacers to the pulley mount because it's a little low. Drill out the hole so it'll accept the 17mm bolt and slot it a little so that the engine sits forward instead of crooked. Put 10mm spacers on the left tranny mount and the engine will sit perfectly in the car.

-Exhaust manifold: This is a toughie. You'll have to realign the thing to make it work. That's the only advice I can really give. Cut at the flange and spot weld it a few centimeters higher, take it to a bench and reweld the thing, dremel it to get rid of any velocity blocks and voila.

-Spark plugs: There is a plastic cover on the 2zzge that goes over the spark plugs, make sure you use it. The 1zzfe doesn't fit.


Things to replace:

While the engine is out, if it's got some miles on it, or if you're a perfectionist, try to replace everything that you would normally replace. Timing chain, belts, rubber hoses, vacuum lines, botox injections, etc.

Something that you SHOULD replace however is this:
Team Celica

Liftbolts are precious. Get them replaced.

Unhappy help me please

some one told me the tps wires should be cut and reversed is this true is that whaT they mean by swap. and does the fuel rail from the 1zz go on the 2zz . and where is the bridge mount located is it the pulley mount. im confused how many mount there are on the
2zz swap
