wanting to know specs?

I'm trying to research the 03' smt6 specs but I cant find any so does anyone know what the 0-60mph specs are or is that extra gear a waste of weight added to the car? is it any better that the 5 speed manuel or worse? I lost my 90' miata about 4 months ago any I was looking at getting either a mk2 or 3.

My Google Map

I drove an early model SMT (5speed) that was like an automatic, slow off of first but then fine after that for upshifts, downshifts were very smooth with rev matching.

Then they did a software upgrade or something that improved the shifting. I would go with the 6smt only for lower revs at cruising speed since that's the only thing I don't like about my 5 speed manual.

Performance wise, yeah its slower but by such a small amount that it doesn't really matter unless you're drag or track racing off the line.

I think there was a video comparing the 5 manual vs. 5 smt around a track and it was real close - so much so that it wouldn't matter for street driving.

Sorry, I don't have hard numbers but it's been talked about so much on SC that it's more or less personal preference of comfort.

Here's the spec from Sport Compact Car for the 2002 model - later years got better shifting but gained a few pounds due to bracing, the extra gear (2-4 stayed the same IIRC) and bigger rear tires. Never seen hard numbers but I would guess the better upshifts offset the added weight. Should keep in mind I think the SMT would beat most drivers in the downshift - YMMV - and just in case you wonder I drive the 5-speed full manual in a 2002 MY.

Acceleration - Conventional launch - Driving like you stole it - Manual transmission
0-30 mph: 3.0 sec. 2.6 sec. 2.3 sec
0-60 mph: 8.7 sec. 8.3 sec. 7.0 sec
30-50 mph: 3.3 sec. 3.3 sec. 2.8 sec
50-70 mph: 4.7 sec. 4.7 sec 4.0 sec
Quarter Mile time: 16.3 sec 15.9 sec. 15.1 sec
Quarter Mile speed: 84.8 mph 84.8 mph 89.1 mph
