Performance mod discussion
I am looking at some minor upgrades and was curious for opinion on the boards. I am targeting power, weight and convenience. This is a daily driver/autocross car. The current mods I have on my 05 manual:
AEM knockoff CAI, PPE Headers, Hi-flow cat, and Carson Tuned muffler. Stock wheels (15's front, 16's rear). What I'm thinking - CAI: replace mine with PPE for ease of cleaning the filter (currently I have to remove the bumper to clean the filter). I am curious about the intake temperatures with the PPE since that is probably the only real performance gain. I notice that I can spike my IAT to 155f on a hot day with the current set up. I have no PPE data to review. ECU: I want to pick up the Unichip and have it tuned for the set up I have. Pricey option for mild gains but not a very invasive mod. Wheels: Weight is the obvious one here - to the point of sticking with the same diameter as stock but going with a lighter rim. I've never done research on wheels so I'm sure a lot of this is styling and cost preference. Any ideas here would be of value. If anyone has any opinions or suggestions on these things I'd like to hear em. |

As you can probably guess from the massive numbers of replies, I think you have pretty much done what can be done for any reasonable amount of cash and still have a DD.
DD wheels for a silver car...hmmm, I might go for these (Enkei JS+M, 15x6.5 43mm offset, 12.1lbs; of course you either have to run 15s out back or jump to 17s - still lighter AND stronger than stock yet keeps a good look, IMO): ![]() Since I have very little fabrication and/or tuning skills, yet still want a DD, you could always join the queue with me and see how LittleRocket's 3MZ swap kit turns out. And before someone jumps in, yes I know about the 2ZZ swap. My goal would be more power down low for a DD - without the issues of managing a FI addition. |

Those are nice looking - too bad they don't have a 15/16 inch combo. I was also looking at the Enkei RPF1 in black - they're super light for the price (9.9lbs/13.7lbs). I think these shod with S.Drive's would be a good set up on the silver car.
![]() Cool to hear about potential R&D on the 3MZ - essentially what spurred this post was the thought we'll never see a bolt on SC kit (my preferred FI choice) so I am looking to eek out the most potential I can with na bolt ons and just be satisfied with it. I'm not pioneering enough to conjure up my own FI equipment. |

If you're thinking of plunking down your hard earned cash on those wheels you might wish to buy pretty soon. I looked them up on the Factory web page (looking to confirm the JS+M did not come in 16), and they show silver, gold, and a SBC (special brilliance coating, or something like that anyway). No black, no bronze, no gunmetal. So, either Enkei's web page is defective or they're thinking about killing off any other colors.
