Question Antenna Mast Problem

Someone unscrewed my antenna mast. No aftermarket masts thread into the stock base which looks hard to remove and replace. Toyota wants $85 for a piece of steel. Should I try to rethread the base with a die cutter or whatever it's called or is there an easier solution. I'm getting broke bying new CD's every week, though I have some great music since the radio picks up nothing.

You 'should' be able to pick up one of those 'universal-import' rubber antennas. They are around 1' to 1-1/2' in length and I think I got mine at Wally-World or maybe Autozone for around $10. It should have a couple of double ended studs. One of them will thread into the OEM base, then you can mount most any antenna designed for a Japanese car...even one of those shorty things off EBay (that's what I'm using and the reception got noticeably worse, but OK if you have good stations). Several people have even cut the rubber antenna about half in length, used some sandpaper to finish off the end and run like that - the OEM antenna makes it look a bit much a R/C car IMO.

I picked up a Radio Shack unit for 5 or 10 bucks and it screwed right in. It's the stubby plastic one - it looked much better and had decent reception.
