Help with CD Player
I have recently bought an MR2 2003 Reg and the cd player isn't playing CDs it spits them out or plays them intermitantly along with crackling sounds. I want to change the head unit anyway for a double din player. (I assume that it is a double din size) but i dont know how to get the old one out?
Any Ideas? Cheers |

Well if you cant figure it out, chances are you might break something taking it out...
If you go into an audio shop they know ALL the little tricks to pull trim pieces off, and get that stuff out. And wiring a deck in can be a PITA! FWIW i think on a newer car like that it may be worth it just to pay someone else to do the job. |

With a taped screw driver gently pry the silver support caps off the bottom left and right side of the two vertical plastic braces to the left and right of the center stack.
Remove the screws holding those long black plastic parts as well. You should be able to gently pry the bevel around the stereo off now (maybe, might have to pull the heater knobs first, can't remember). This should reveal 4 screws at each corner of the stereo but wait. Remove the heater knobs and the slider knob for recirc, undo the 2 screws there and I think that should begin to wiggle, disconnect the clock. I don't think you have to pull that part all the way. Now you should have clear access to the 4 screws around the stereo. I'm going from memory, it's not that hard and nothing needs to be forced. Just go slow. There is NO need to take it to a pro... It's just not that difficult. Plug time: Sooooo, you can directly replace the OEM spyder unit with a Scion unit, and I have one for sale and can ship ($50 plus shipping). It is a direct plug and play, it has the orange colored lighting, and plays mp3 format off of the CD. It also sounds about 10 times better than the OEM head unit and is the easiest, cheapest stereo upgrade for a modest budget. The one I am selling was in my car and worked like a charm and is well cared for and still works. ![]() PM me if you're interested. |
