How Can I Tell If I've Got a Quick Shifter?

I recently bought a used MR2 Spyder that has had two previous owners, I know the second guy, but not the first.

The car has a TRD air cleaner and TRD cat-back exhaust system on it, but I can't tell if it's got a quick shifter kit in it or not.

Is there an easy way to verify if the change has been made or not, without taking the thing apart? There's no TRD shift lever, but other than that I can't tell. The shifter doesn't seem bad, not as loose as my 911, but I would put one on if I thought it would get better.

Thanks.

This sounds like a set up for a bad joke.

One 'easy' way is to compare the length of the shift lever of your car to a stock unit. The TRD is much shorter.

Of course to do that I'd need an MR2 with a shifter in it that I knew was stock, unfortunately I've only got the one car.

I guess I could go looking for another one to look at . . .

Really, you didn't buy two?

- Measure the length of the shifter and post the result and ask someone else to confirm their stock/modified shifter length against it and post an answer. I can post up when I get home next week if nobody else has the energy.

A picture might work but the angle of the photo would be critical. I had pics of the before/after install once but I couldn't find them for you.

One other possibility - if someone used most any other brand besides TRD, the shifter would be offset in the console (as far as I know only TRD and the OEM shifter had a bent shift lever).
